Nov 2, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane volleyball (10-13, 2-10) suffered a 1-3 defeat at the hands of the UAB Blazers (10-14, 3-9) on Sunday afternoon inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave started the match strong taking the opening set over the Blazers but unfortunately that would be all on the day as UAB won each of the next three sets.
With the loss, the Wave moved to 8-5 at home on the season while the Blazers improved to 3-6 in road matches.
The trio of Ava Derbes, Lauryn Mack, and Avery Burks led the offensive attack for Tulane against UAB. Derbes and Mack paced the team each finishing with 11 kills in the contest while Burks added 10. Meanwhile, Sabrina Skyers followed close behind posting nine kills to go with six total blocks.
Zoe Rachow set up most of the offense for the Wave as she recorded 28 assists while also matching Dayla Ortiz with a team-high 12 digs defensively. Katherine Crosley also tallied double figures in assists finishing with 10 assists in the match.
Tulane started the match firing on all cylinders scoring the first four points of the first set before eventually building an 18-10 advantage. UAB managed to mount a response with a 12-2 run to put the Wave behind for the first time at 21-22. Rachow quickly answered with a kill to tie the score before Burks rattled off three of the last four points to win the set 25-23 for the Green Wave.
UAB flipped the script in the second set pulling out to an early lead and never looking back. Tulane trailed by as many as 13 points before eventually dropping the set 13-25.
The Green Wave faced another deficit from the start of the third set as the Blazers scored three points before Tulane managed to get on the board. The Wave was never able to overcome the initial lead of the Blazers ultimately falling in the third set 21-25.
In the fourth set Tulane and UAB battled to gain control. The two teams traded the lead three times and squared off in a tie on eight occasions during the set. It was the Blazer who broke the final tie with a 5-1 run to take an 18-14 lead. Tulane was unable to battle back down the stretch dropping the fourth set 19-25 to lose the match 1-3.
