
Baseball Loses Final Game of Conference Series to South Florida 10-3

TAMPA – The Tulane baseball team (17-11, 2-4 AAC) lost the team's fourth straight game and were swept in the conference series with a 10-3 road loss to South Florida (16-9, 5-1 AAC) on Sunday morning, March 30, at USF Baseball Stadium.
Carter Benbrook started for the Green Wave and surrendered two runs on two hits with two walks in a pair of innings. Wes Burton (0-1) was the first reliever out of the pen for Tulane. He walked three and allowed a run with a strikeout in an inning to take the loss. Julius Ejike-Charles was next out of the pen for the Wave. He surrendered three runs on two hits in 1.1 innings. Gavin Smith then entered in the contest. He retired one with a walk, a hit and two runs. Jacob Moore was the team's third pitcher in the fifth inning. He gave up a run without being able to record an out. Garrett Payne then entered to relieve Moore to finish out the fifth. Payne ended up throwing a 2.1 innings and surrendered a run with three strikeouts. Michael Lombardi worked the final inning for Tulane and retired the side in order with a strikeout.
The team's five hits in the game came from Connor Rasmussen, Matthias Haas, Jason Wachs, Lombardi, Tanner Chun, Gavin Schulz and William Good. The runs were driven in by Chun, Wachs and Good.
USF's Matt Goldenbaum (1-0) earned the win with three scoreless innings for the Bulls.
Tulane scored a pair of hits on three hits in the first inning. Wachs drove in Haas with his single up the middle and was followed by a double by Chun to score a racing Wachs all the way from first.
USF answered with two runs in the third inning as Carlos Jacome drove in the first with a single to left. The tying run came in on the bases loaded walk to Jackson Mayo.
The Bulls took the team's first lead of the game, 5-2, on a Marcus Brodil RBI single and a two-run home run from Jacome.
USF added four more runs to the advantage in the fifth, 9-2, on the three-run double by Brodil and the double from Jacome.
The Bulls added another run to the lead, 10-2, in the seventh inning on the base hit from Ryan Pruitt.
Tulane closed out the game with a run in the ninth inning on the home run from William Good to make the final score 10-3.
Next, the team completes the five-game road trip and heads to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take on No. 16 Southern Miss on Tuesday, April 1, for a 6 p.m. contest.
