Baseball Drops 7-3 Game To Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane baseball team (21-13, 5-4 AAC) saw the program's four game winning streak stopped in a 7-3 loss to state rival Southeastern Louisiana (26-7) on Tuesday night, April 8, on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Tulane jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings only to see the Lions roar back with three in the third, two more in the fifth, a run in the seven and a tally in the ninth.
The Lions outhit the Green Wave 10-8 and also drew nine walks compared to three for Tulane.
John-Paul Sauer earned the start for Tulane and went the first two innings with two runs, two walks and three strikeouts. He was the first of what would be end up being nine pitchers used by the club on the day. Wes Burton (0-2) was the first arm out of the pen and was tagged with the loss as he surrendered three runs in 2.2 innings with four strikeouts along with two hits and walk. Garrett Payne then entered the game and went an inning with three hits allowed and a strikeout. Julius Ejike-Charles was the team's fourth pitcher and recorded an out along with allowing a walk and a run. Gavin Smith was called upon next, and he threw a 0.1 of an inning. That led to a Jacob Moore relief appearance. He allowed a run in 0.2 innings pitched with a walk and a strikeout. Grayson Smith had a scoreless frame as the team's seventh pitcher of the night. Henry Shuffler threw 0.1 frames with two hits and a run allowed along two walks and a strikeout. Michael Devenney was the program's ninth and final pitcher with a scoreless 0.2 in the ninth.
Gavin Schulz led the offensive attack for Tulane with a pair of hits. Matthias Haas, Connor Rasmussen, Hugh Pinkney, Andrew McKenna, Brock Slaton and Kaikea Harrison all had a hit. The team's runs were scored by Haas, Rasmussen and Slaton. Pinkney
Tulane scored first on a balk to plate Gavin Schulz. The Wave added the team's second run of the inning on Pinkney's base hit the opposite way.
A misplay by the SLU center fielder on a ball hit by Schulz led to a run to increase Tulane's lead to 3-0 after two innings.
The Lions tied the game up at three on the two-out three run home run from Connor O'Neal in the third inning.
O'Neal did more damage in the fifth for the Lions with a two-out single to plate Ryan Brome. He was followed by a Mo Little infield single to score TJ Salvaggio with the team's fifth run.
Dane Watts drove in the Lions' sixth run of the game with his single to center in the seventh.
SLU completed the scoring in the top of the ninth on the bases loaded walk by Cole Stromboe.
Next, Tulane hosts conference rival UAB (18-15, 3-6 AAC) for a three-game set over the weekend. The program plays 6:30 p.m. games on Friday, April 11, and Saturday, April 12, and then a 1 p.m. start for the series finale on Sunday, April 13.
