
Baseball Earns Series Victory Against North Dakota State on Sunday

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane baseball team (11-4) started the day by winning the series with a 9-3 victory over North Dakota State (2-13) in a suspended game from Saturday evening before falling to the Bison by a 12-3 margin on Sunday, March 9, on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Tanner Chun led the attack in the two games with four hits, three runs scored, a double, a home run and five RBIs. Connor Rasmussen had four hits including a home run and three RBIs in the two games. Michael Lombardi picked up two hits and RBIs in the final two contests against the Bison. Hugh Pinkney tallied a pair of hits including a double. Matthias Haas had a home run, two RBIs and two walks.
Game One – Tulane 9 – North Dakota State 3
Trey Cehajic (3-1) earned the victory in the suspended game for the Green Wave with a career-high six innings worked. He allowed two runs (one earned) with six strikeouts. Carter Benbrook worked a scoreless inning. John-Paul Sauer allowed a run in his 1.2 innings on the mound with a strikeout. Tayler Montiel got the team's last out with a ground out to first with the bases loaded to finish the contest.
Logan Knight (0-3) was tagged with the loss as he allowed five runs in 3.2 innings pitched.
Conner Rasmussen and Tanner Chun led the offensive attack for Tulane with three hits and RBIs each. Hugh Pinkey also had a multi-hit performance plus scored two runs. Michael Lombardi drove in a pair of runs. Matthias Haas hit his second home run of the season plus drew a walk.
North Dakota State scored first on an RBI single from Colten Becker to score Jake Schaffner.
After nearly an hour rain delay, Tulane took the lead back in the bottom of the first with back-to-back home runs from Connor Rasmussen and Matthias Haas.
Tulane added three more to the lead in the second inning on a double to the gap by Tanner Chun and the single up the middle by Rasmussen.
The Green Wave added two runs to the advantage in the sixth on a Lombardi RBI double and a sacrifice fly from Rasmussen.
Tulane put up a two spot in the seventh inning on Chun's looping single to right and Lombardi's sacrifice fly.
North Dakota State made the final score 9-3 with a tally in the ninth inning.
Game 2 – North Dakota State 12 – Tulane 3
J.D. Rodriguez (1-1) started the game for Tulane and surrendered two runs without registering an out. Blaise Wilcenski pitched three innings with two runs allowed and six strikeouts. Will Clements threw 0.2 scoreless with a strikeout. Julius Ejike-Charles also had 0.2 frames thrown with a strikeout. Grayson Smith allowed a run in his inning with a strikeout. Carter Benbrook threw 0.2 scoreless innings. Jacob Moore picked up a pair of strikeouts in his two innings. Lombardi surrendered six runs in the ninth with two strikeouts.
The win was earned by NDSU's Reese Ligtenberg (1-0) who surrendered two runs in 2.2 innings in relief.
The Tulane offense was limited to four hits in the game with Jason Wachs, Michael Lombardi, Connor Rasmussen and Tanner Chun all having one.
North Dakota State scored first with a pair of runs in the opening inning on a bases loaded walk from Davis Hamilton and the sacrifice fly from Sam Canton.
Haas drove in Tulane's first run of the game with his infield ground out to plate Lombardi.
NDSU added two runs to the advantage in the third inning on Colten Becker's double and Canton's single.
The Bison scored another run in the fourth on Dante Smith's base hit.
A wild pitch in the sixth allowed the Bison to score the team's sixth run of the game.
Tulane cut the deficit in half in the sixth inning on a two-run home run from Chun.
The Bison got six runs in the ninth on a hit-by-pitch, a walk with the bases loaded and a grand slam.

Tulane has a busy week with a pair of home midweeks starting against Nicholls on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and then playing host to Jackson State on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium before welcoming in Xavier University for a weekend series from March 14-16.
